Group Successes
Ramesh Radia attended 6 week stop smoking group support sessions at the Wembley Centre for Health and Care in January 2004. He had been smoking 20 a day for 45 years.
This is how he managed to kick the habit for good. "I started smoking when I was 16 years old. I had tried stopping a couple of times before but only for 3 or 4 days. The longest I had actually stopped smoking for in the past was 3 months. I was smoking 20-22 a day, I then reduced this to 15-16 for a short time. I tried to cut down further but that really didn't work. The 24 hour patch was really good, it helped a lot. I used the patch for nearly 3 months.
I've still got a spare packet in case something goes wrong! Using the patch was important for me. I really enjoyed the group support, meeting people, talking, it was good. Everyone was really helpful, especially the staff. I couldn't have stopped without the group. Since quitting, my health has improved, I go for walks and my family is pleased."
Over a year later, Ramesh is still doing well and has stayed off the cigarettes. Well done Ramesh! |
